A few weeks back I shot the brie with Peter Grant to find out a little more about what nutrition means to him and within the Stormers camp. You can follow the link to catch the full article but for now I thought I would give his mielie bread recipe he shared with us the spotlight. Mielie bread is a classic South African treat, it goes down well with a braai (topped with a little butter and golden syrup!) and it also makes a great high energy snack for use around exercise.
This is the excerpt from the earlier article:
I don’t just hand it out, but for “Food for Sport” I will make an exception:– 1 Cup Maize meal – 1 Cup Flour – 1 Cup Milk – ½ Cup Sugar (white) – 3 eggs – 3 tsp Baking Powder – 3 tbs oil or melted butter – 1 tin of creamed sweetcorn
Throw everything together, mix well then bake in a greased loaf tin for 75 minutes (1 hr 15 min) at 180 degrees. Serve traditionally with butter and a bit of golden syrup.
What makes it all even better is how easy it all is. Enjoy folks!
